OLD WORLD BRAZIL March 18 – 24, 2012 For the traveler who loves to explore, our Old World Brazil tour is filled with history, music, and nature. We’ll start in unforgettable Rio where we’ll discover everything that makes it famous: inspiring landmarks, vibrant beaches and exceptional cuisine. Later, we’ll visit the historic city of Salvador and drink in its rich Afro-Brazilian culture. Cultural omnivores unite! Day 1 Arrive in Rio de Janeiro. You will be welcomed by Founder and Tour Conductor Rigo, who will meet you at your hotel (transportation from the airport to the hotel will be arranged). Day 2 After breakfast, we’ll get a lay of the land by taking a guided tour of Rio. Destinations include the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral, Maracanã Stadium, the Municipal Theatre, Sambadrome, the National Museum of Fine Arts, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Lapa and Urca neighborhoods. After a lunch at a Brazilian BBQ (know in Brazil as a churrascaria), we will visit the magnificent Christ the Redeemer Statue, which towers over the entire city. Day 3 Pack your sunblock, because day three is all about the beach! We’ll start the day off by hitting Copacabana Beach, perfect for people-watching. In the afternoon, we’ll drink Caipirinhas and Batidas at Ipanema Beach and visit Leblon neighborhood. Group dinner at a Brazilian restaurant (Optional) – sample the local cuisine and get a feel for Brazilian nightlife. Following dinner, everyone will head to Lapa neighborhood to catch a live music show at the world famous Rio Scenarium nightclub. Day 4 After breakfast, we’ll fly to Salvador, Bahia, known as Brazil’s capital of happiness. Located in the Northeast region of Bahia, Salvador is one of the oldest cities in the Americas. This center of Afro-Brazilian culture is known for its outdoor parties, street carnivals and chilled-out attitude. Day 5 Salvador boasts over 50 km of coastline. In the morning, we’ll take a tour of the beaches around the city. In the afternoon, we can explore the Pelourinho, Salvador’s historic center. If we’re lucky, we’ll be able to catch a performance of the famous percussion group Olodum! Day 6 You guessed it - day 6 is all about sea turtles. We’ll travel to the town of Praia do Forte and spend most of the day visiting Projeto TAMAR, a non-profit that protects sea turtles from extinction. We’ll learn about the delicate ecosystem of the Brazilian coastline, and about the dangers posed to ocean life in that region. Later that day, we’ll fly to Rio de Janeiro and check in to a hotel for our last evening in Brazil. Day 7 Depart Rio de Janeiro. Tchau, amigos! Included in this package:
